Introduction

I am doing an analysis of Harvest Hope Food Bank web site for the CMS 3710-Writing for Digital Media class offered at Clayton State University. This analysis is a major project I have been working on this semester. I will use the textbook Web Style Guide by Patrick Lynch and Sarah Horton and the article “Why Is Facebook Blue? The Science Behind Colors In Marketing” by Leo Widrich to support my analysis and use examples from this web site. According to Harvest Hope Food Bank web site they are located in South Carolina and their mission “is to provide for the needs of hungry people by gathering and sharing quality food with dignity, compassion and education” (“About Us”). The Harvest Hope Food Bank is located in Columbia, Florence, and Greenville. Harvest Hope Food Bank offers assistance to anyone who is need and will happily accept any donation they receive.

In my analysis of Harvest Hope Food Bank web site I will examine the 5 aspects, which are the Color, Editorial Style, Graphics, Theme, and Universal Usability. First, I will discuss how this web site uses color for their background, links, web pages, and headers. Second, I will discuss how this web site uses editorial style by using the web pages and links as examples. Third, I will explain how graphics are displayed on this web site. Fourth, I will explain the theme of this web site. Fifth, I will note how Harvest Hope Food Bank uses universal usability and what they need to improve. In conclusion, there are some positive and negative features about Harvest Hope Food Bank web site, but overall Harvest Hope Food Bank is a good web site for people who want to receive support or give donations.
